about

“Divide started as a finger point, and evolved to point that finger right back at ourselves. It tells a story from two perspectives - an over-privileged luxury car driver, safe in a bubble of social elevation, and a working-class observer, looking at the flash of gold and air-conditioned life with disdain. Their eyes lock, and both feel disgust at the other. It’s about NIMBYism, selfishness, disdain, snobbery, and othering. It flips voices throughout, telling the story from both participants.

Ultimately it’s about our unwillingness to see parts of ourselves in others. It’s easier most of the time to see others as being part of another world, but the only way we can move forward is to accept that change must come from within ourselves first, and part of that is accepting our own failings.”

lyrics

A disconnect so clean
Safe there in the embrace
Of wealth so complete

Content, we live like this
The white of your eyes and the white of your neck
I feel such disgust

Mouth breather, bottom feeder, DIVIDE
Credit dealer, profit stealer, DIVIDE

Of course it comes to this
The red of your eyes and the red of your neck
I feel such disgust

Helpless
Our hands stay unextended
My sneer
My dignity
Our... DIVIDE
